university degree3 2With the recent introduction of degree apprenticeship, there is certainly a better alternative to obtaining university degree through the government apprenticeship programme. The degree apprenticeship programme which was introduced by the UK government in May 2017 is a radical change to the apprenticeship market.
With the degree apprenticeship programme, learners will be employed in a workplace as apprentice and get enrolled under the government apprenticeship programme in their related field. Learners will be employed as staff and get to work in their chosen field for three to five years while attending college for training at the same time . The advantage is that the apprentices will work and be paid a minimum of the national apprenticeship wage whilst working towards their degree at the same time. By the end of the five tears, apprentices will become proficient on the job with five years work experience and still come out with their degree without the debt of student loans.
The degree apprenticeships are available in most sectors in Accounting, engineering, journalism, teaching, management, nursing, healthcare, and solicitor and so on. More degree apprenticeship standards are being developed by the employers trail blazer group and universities. The standards are being supervised by the Institute of Apprenticeship. A number of opportunities are likely to grow rapidly over the next few years.
Entry requirement are quite similar. For example, the civil engineer degree apprenticeship is a five-year course with typical annual salary of around £15,000. The entry requirements range from ‘BBC’ to three ‘A’ grades at A-level.
There are over one thousand training providers commissioned by the government to deliver the apprenticeship programme including the Learning and Development Bureau.
